This week, we caught up with our Fellow and current Master in Management Student, Sarah, to talk about how she spends her weekends now that she lives in Madrid. She recently returned from Seville, so the timing was rather perfect!
One of the fantastic benefits of moving to Madrid to pursue postgraduate study at IE is the opportunities you get to travel. Living in the capital city of Spain is busy to say the least – there’s always something going on and something new to see. In saying that, I try to make the most of my long weekends and holiday periods and explore everything else that Spain has to offer.
I recently travelled to Seville, the capital of southern Spain’s Andalusia region, for a long weekend filled with food, drink, culture, history and architecture! It was everything I imagined and more – a beautiful part of the country that I would recommend anyone visiting Spain to see. My favorite part of the city is without a doubt the magnificent Plaza de España – I loved it so much I went back twice!
Plaza de España is a stunning example of Renaissance Revival style in Spanish architecture and a must-see for any visitor. We spent the afternoon biking around the area, which is surrounded by a beautiful park, only after having a go on the row boats.
During the day, after visiting the iconic Seville cathedral, we got lost in the traditional Spanish streets all around the center. The city is full of beautiful little shops and delicious Spanish cuisine, exactly what you hope a smaller Spanish city to be.
Another highlight was climbing the Metropol Parasol, a uniquely designed wooden structure in the old quarter of Seville. The view from the top at sunset is really quite something – a perfect way to end the last night of our trip.
All in all, the trip was a highlight in my year so far, and it’s only a few hours on the train or bus. I’m not even into my second semester at IE, and I’m already planning my summer travels around Europe. It’s going to be a pretty amazing year.
Have you ever been to Seville? We’d love to hear about your experience.
